Uganda Arabica Okoro
The very rare Okoro Arabica is grown in a very remote and small region in northwest Uganda, south of the town of Arua, which borders Sudan to its North and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the West. Coffee is the main cash crop of this region of Uganda and the agricultural practices remain much unchanged from the old days when coffee was first grown here. With plenty of rain and very rich soil, this land became the first one to start an organic coffee project. Families have their own small plot of land and the whole family works on the farm which together handpicks the ripened cherries from the trees at harvest time. The coffee plants share the land with other food crops and are shaded by trees providing protection for birds who in turn help the coffee trees by eating the insects that may harm the coffee trees!
