International Coffee Day October 1, 2016
On October 1st, 2016 the coffee world will celebrate International Coffee Day. This is a day for honouring the people who work in coffee, appreciating the passion that coffee creates, as well as taking the opportunity to inform consumers about coffee as a global product. Coffee is woven into the fabric of our lives. It’s a morning ritual, social stimulant, a solitary pleasure, an intellectual catalyst. We drink coffee morning, day and night with friends, business associates and loved ones. You have only to walk down the nearest main street and note the number of coffee shops to realize the extent of our love affair with our favourite caffeinated beverage. Coffee Day also marks the long history of the drink: the properties of coffee beans are thought to have first been discovered in Ethiopia. The beans are actually the pits found in the coffee cherry. The story goes that a 9th century goat herder noticed their stimulating effects on his goats and began experimenting. So when you drink your cup of coffee this October 1st, inhale its aroma, taste its dark and full-bodied flavour, think about its most fascinating history – but most of all – enjoy!
Happy Coffee Day!
